Sodium on the Surface of Activated Carbons as a Factor Enhancing Reactive Adsorption of Dibenzothiophene

چکیده
Based on the results described in the literature on the reactivity of sodium towards DBT and its derivates, the effect of sodium dispersed on the surface of a carbonaceous support on the removal of DBT from hexane solution at ambient conditions has been investigated. Since the main objective of this paper is to demonstrate the effect of sodium on the reactive adsorption of DBT from an organic solvent, hexane was chosen as a model solvent. As adsorbents, two carbons with and without sodium on the surface were investigated. The carbons are obtained by carbonization of polystyrene-sulfonic acid-co-maleic acid in sodium salt at 800 C in nitrogen. The results show that sodium present on the surface of carbon takes part in the reaction with DBT in which sodium metallates and sodium sulfides are formed.

Preparation, characterization and phenol adsorption capacity of activated carbons from African beech wood sawdust
In the present study, different activated carbons were prepared from carbonized African beech wood sawdust by potassium hydroxide activation. The activated carbons were characterized by brunauer–emmett–teller, scanning electron microscope, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analyzer. The phenol adsorption capacity of the prepared carbons was evaluated. The d...

Adsorption of p-Nitrophenol by three different activated carbons (F100, S.E.I. and B.D.H.) was carried out at 301 K and at controlled pH conditions. Two different adsorption models (Langmuir model and Freundlich model) were studied and compared. The adsorption capacity of the carbons depends on the Point of Zero Charge (PZC) and surface area of the carbons. Adsorption of the solute at higher pH...

Introduction Removal of dibenzothiophene (DBT) and 4,6dimethyldibenzothiophene (DMDBT), which are considered as refractory species, to low level of 30 ppm from diesel fuel is not a trivial task. Activated carbons have been shown as good adsorbents of dibenzothiophenic compounds [1-3]. Introduction of oxygen functional groups on the surface results in a specific adsorption of dibenzothiophenic s...
متن کاملComparison of Adsorption Properties of Activated Carbons with Different Crops Residues as Precursors for Gold Cyanide Recovery: An Iranian Gold Industry Guide
Adsorption of gold cyanide on three types of Activated Carbons (ACs) has been investigated in batch and column adsorption conditions. Applied ACs have been derived from different crops precursors i.e., coconut shell (CAC), peach stone (PAC), and walnut shell (WAC). As peach stone and walnut shells are abundant agricultural residues in Iran, the activated carbons produced from these precurso...

This study investigated the effect of temperature, different concentrations of sodium carbonate, and the dose of organic solvent on the desorption of Reactive Red 198 dye from dye-saturated activated carbon using batch and continuous systems. The results of the batch desorption test showed 60% acetone in water as the optimum amount. However, when the concentration of sodium carbonate was raised,...
